International Affairs:

The India-Maldives MoU on Training and Capacity Building Programme for Maldivian civil services officers training has been made operationalized in the ceremony held at the Civil Services Commission of Maldives at Male.

Pakistan Prime Minister Office got a 3-year extension of General Qamar Javed Bajwa‘s tenure as Chief of Army Staff. Bajwa’s original term to end in November 2019.

Sri Lankan field commander appointed the new Army Commander, the President’s office announced.Lt Gen Shavendra Silva, 55 take charge as incumbent Army chief Lt Gen Mahesh Senanayake’s service.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to pay a 3-day visit to United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain. The visit aims to hold extensive talks with top leaders of the two countries on bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual interest.

The 5th meeting of the Nepal-India Joint Commission is to take place from August 21 to 22, 2019 in Kathmandu, Nepal. The External Affairs Minister (EAM) S.Jaishankar is to participate in the meeting.

Indian Affairs:

Sadbhavana Diwas is celebrated on 20 August every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. This year will be the 75th Birth Anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi.

The eminent composer Mohammed Zahur Hashmi passed away on 19 August. He was 92 years old. He died because of prolonged illnesses.

Economy:

State Bank of India bank debit cards from the banking system as the bank plans to promote more digital payment solutions and eliminate the plastic cards.

Science& Technology:

Indian’s first-ever mission aimed for a soft landing on the Moon’s south polar region, Chandrayaan-2, was inserted into Moon’s orbit on 20 August. The entry was confirmed by the Indian Space Agency, ISRO.

The Indian railways enabled free Wi-Fi at its 3000th station. The facility went live at Rajasthan’s Ellenabad on Monday, with 1,000 stations connected.

India is the largest emitter of anthropogenic sulphur dioxide in the world as per the data released by environmental NGO Greenpeace 2019.

K Thangaraj, chief scientist at the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology(CCMB), Hyderabad, Telangana, won this year’s J C Bose Fellowship.

Nepal to hold SAARC Foreign Ministers informal meeting

Nepal plans to hold SAARC Foreign Ministers informal meeting on the sidelines of the 74th UN General Assembly (UNGA) session in September 2019. The aim is to prove the country's role in creating an environment for the commencement of the regional summit.

India and SAARC summit:

The 18th SAARC summit was held in Kathmandu, Nepal in 2014. India is the largest member of SAARC forum. The 19th SAARC summit was supposed to held in 2016. But the summit was canceled after India boycotted the meeting. India protested after the terror attack at the military base in Uri in Jammu and Kashmir on September 2016. The attack killed 19 soldiers. After India boycotted the SAARC summit countries including Bangladesh, Bhutan and Afghanistan walked out. India's decision is to set up diplomatic pressure on Pakistan. India also declared that it will participate only if Pakistan took steps to tackle terrorism.

Government to include all kinds of cancer treatment under Ayushman Bharat

The National Health Authority (NHA) is planning to include all types of cancer and its treatment under their healthcare packages. As of now, officials feel the healthcare packages for cancer treatment are not very comprehensive.

> For the treatment of cancer, a patient has to undergo various types of medical procedures. These include chemotherapy, surgery and radiations. Therefore, the NHA is planning to include all kinds of regimes for chemotherapy for various kinds of cancer.

"There are some missing links in the treatment of cancer and it not very comprehensive. Hence, we have just recommended further strengthening of the medical packages for cancer. This has to be approved by the governing body and the entire process is likely to take three months," a senior official at the NHA said.

> Confirming the development, Dr Indu Bhushan, CEO, National Health Authority said, "Treatment for cancer is very expensive. We want to include treatment for all type of cancer in our health packages which are cost-effective, proven and beneficial to the patients."

> Dr Abhishek Sankar, Professor of Oncology at AIIMS, said every year about 15 lakh new patients are diagnosed with cancer. Lung cancer is the most common type of cancer with 1 lakh 20 thousand patients detected every year, followed by breast cancer which affects about 1.5 lakh patients, 2 lakh 76 thousand lip and oral cancer cases every year. Nearly 44-45 lakh patients suffer from cancer at a particular time.

Note: NHA is an implementing body of Ayushman Bharat - Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) health insurance scheme.

> Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY, a National Health Protection Scheme, will cover over 10 crore poor and vulnerable families (approximately 50 crore beneficiaries) providing coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalisation.

> So far, 16000 hospitals have been empanelled and nearly 34 lakh beneficiaries have been admitted while nine crore e-cards have been issued.

विश्व मानवता दिवस:19 अगस्त

👉मानवता एक ऐसा शब्द है जिसकी परिभाषा बहुत ही बड़ी है. जैसे-जैसे मानव प्रगति की राह पर आगे बढ़ रहा है वैसे-वैसे वह मानवता की भावना से दूर होता जा रहा है. आज लोग दूसरों की मदद तो दूर अपनों की ही मदद करने में झिझक महसूस करते हैं. एक देश मानवता को भुला अपने ही देश की जनता पर बम गिराने में लगा है तो दूसरा अपने देश में भागकर आए शरणार्थियों को मार-मार कर भगा रहा है. अफ्रीका में करोड़ों लोग भूख की वजह से दम तोड़ रहे हैं वहीं कांगो जैसे गणराज्यों में हैवानियत का नंगा नाच नाचा जा रहा है. विश्व के कई हिस्सों में मानवता का निरंतर क्षय हो रहा है और इन हिस्सों में मदद के नाम पर जमीनी तौर पर कुछ भी नहीं किया जा रहा है.

💟👉19 अगस्त को विश्व मानवता दिवस मनाया गया। इस मौके पर संयुक्त राष्ट्र संघ के जिनेवा कार्यालय में हुए कार्यक्रम में वैश्विक मानवीय स्थिति पर ध्यान देने और मिलकर संकट से निपटने की अपील की गयी।

👉संयुक्त राष्ट्र मानवतावादी समन्वय दफ्तर ने अंतर्राष्ट्रीय सहयोग से मानवीय संकट को दूर करने की अपील की। संयुक्त राष्ट्र जनसंख्या कोष कार्यालय ने जोर देते हुए कहा कि विकास को साकार करने के लिए लोगों को आपात मानवीय सहायता देने के साथ शांति स्थापित करने की पूरी कोशिश करनी चाहिए।

💟👉विश्व मानवता दिवस लोगों में मानवता की भावना जगाने के लिए ही शुरू किया गया है. दिसम्बर 2008 में संयुक्त राष्ट्र ने 19 अगस्त को विश्व मानवता दिवस के रूप में मनाने का निर्णय लिया था. दरअसल 19 अगस्त, 2003 को ही बगदाद में संयुक्त राष्ट्र के हेडक्वार्टर पर आतंकवादी हमले में 22 लोग मारे गए थे जिनमें एक समाज सेवक सरगिओ विएरा डी मेलो (Sergio Vieira de Mello) भी शामिल थे. विश्व मानवता दिवस उन सभी लोगों को एक श्रद्धाजंलि थी जिन्होंने अपना जीवन मानवता की राह पर चलते हुए विश्व को समर्पित कर दिया.

👉भारत में भी मानवता के कई ऐसे प्रतीक हैं जिन पर हमें गर्व है,लेकिन आज भारत में भी मानवता का कत्ल होता दिख रहा है.

👉विश्व मानवता दिवस के मौके पर संयुक्त राष्ट्र ने विश्व के सभी लोगों से अफ्रीका के असहाय लोगों की मदद करने की अपील की है. अफ्रीका के कई हिस्सों में इस समय 11 करोड़ से अधिक लोग भूखमरी और गंभीर अकाल की वजह से पीड़ित हैं. इनमें से सबसे बुरी हालत महिलाओं और बच्चों की है. दूसरे देशों में शरण के लिए भी इनको भारी कीमत चुकानी पड़ रही है. हालत इतने गंभीर हैं कि संयुक्त राष्ट्र भी सभी पीडितों की मदद करने में खुद को असहाय पा रहा है. जिन लोगों को सहायता मिल रही है वह तो ठीक हैं बाकियों ने अपनी जिंदगी भगवान के सहारे छोड़ दी है.

👉अफ्रीका ही नहीं विश्व के कई अन्य हिस्सों में समाज को मानवता की जरूरत है. आज जहां भी प्राकृतिक आपदाएं या कोई अन्य घटना होती है तो सरकारी मदद से पहले लोग आसपास की जनता से मानवता के नाते मदद की आस रखते हैं. मानवता ही एकमात्र ऐसा हथियार है जिससे हम पूरी मानव जाति की सहायता कर सकते हैं.
