1. “Worker safety code Bill”                                                                                                                                         (gs 2)

q.What is this bill about and why is it  in the news?

a.This bill got cabinet approval yesterday and it seeks to merge 13 labour laws.

A general outline of the bill…..

The Union Cabinet approved the introduction of a bill that will codify relevant provisions of four existing laws and intends to increase the legislative protection of minimum wage to the entire workforce. Media reports suggested the Codes on Wages Bill, 2019 will be introduced in the ongoing Budget Session of parliament and would benefit about 50 crore workers. According to media reports, the codification proposes to simplify 32 central labour laws into four codes to bring them in sync with the emerging economic situation, facilitate easier compliance by establishments, promote ease of living and ensure labour welfare and wage and social security for workers. The Code of Wages Bill is the first in the series of four labour codes. It seeks to subsume relevant provisions of The Minimum Wages Act, 1948, Payment of Wages Act 1936, Payment of Bonus Act Act, 1965 and Equal Remuneration Act 1976.

3.NGT                                               (gs3)

-Its in news because of its judgements lately.
What is National Green Tribunal (NGT)?
It is a specialised body set up under the National Green Tribunal Act (2010) for
effective and expeditious disposal of cases relating to environmental protection and
conservation of forests and other natural resources.
With the establishment of the NGT, India became the third country in the world to set
up a specialised environmental tribunal, only after Australia and New Zealand, and the
first developing country to do so.
NGT is mandated to make disposal of applications or appeals finally within 6 months of
filing of the same.
The NGT has five places of sittings, New Delhi is the Principal place of sitting and
Bhopal, Pune, Kolkata and Chennai are the other four.

4. Padmanabhaswamy temple (gs-1)

q.Why the above temple is in news?

a.The above temple is in news because a special
volume in Malayalam on
the Sree Padmanabhaswamy
temple was released.

--Padmanabhaswamy Temple is located in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. The temple is built in an intricate fusion of the indigenous Kerala style and the Tamil style (kovil) of architecture associated with the temples located in the neighbouring state of Tamil Nadu, featuring high walls, and a 16th-century Gopuram.While the Moolasthanam of the temple is the Ananthapuram Temple in Kumbala in Kasargod District, architecturally to some extent, the temple is a replica of the Adikesava Perumal temple located in Thiruvattar, Kanyakumari District.


5.Anthrax.                             (gs-3)

q.Why is it in news?

a.It is in news Because of two suspected cases of anthrax

were reported from Madagada village of Araku mandal

in Visakhapatnam District in Andhra pradesh .

About anthrax:

Anthrax is a disease caused by Bacillus anthracis, a germ that lives in soil.


It affects animals such as cattle, sheep, and goats more often than people. People can get anthrax from contact with infected animals, wool, meat, or hides. It can cause three forms of disease in people.

Spread:

Anthrax does not spread directly from one infected animal or person to another; it is spread by spores. These spores can be transported by clothing or shoes.

Anthrax has been used in biological warfare by agents and by terrorists to intentionally infect .It was spread in US through a mail. It killed 5 people and made 22 sick.

6.Wayanad Wildlife                   (gs-3)
Sanctuary …. 

In news because a she jumbo got injured after a truck collision.      Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary is an animal sanctuary in Wayanad, Kerala, India. It has an extent of 344.44 km² with four ranges namely Sulthan Bathery, Muthanga, Kurichiat and Tholpetty. A variety of large wild animals such as Indian bison, elephant, deer and tiger are found there.


7.Sea level increase                 (gs-3)

a.It is in news because Bengal port records country’s highest sea level rise in 50 years also Four ports in India recorded a higher
sea­level rise than the global average Of the major ports in India,Diamond Harbour in West Bengal located at the mouth
of river Hooghly has recordedthe maximum sea level increase,
according to data tabled in the Lok Sabha by theMinistry of Earth Science.


8.Inter­State RiverWater Disputes (Amendment)Bill, 2019                                     gs-2


Q.WHAT IS THIS BILL ALL ABOUT AND WHY IS IT IN THE NEWS?


A.The Union Cabinet has approved

the Inter­State River 
Water Disputes (Amendment)
Bill, 2019 that will 
help adjudicate disputes relating
to waters of interState 
rivers and river valleys.
A version of this Bill 
was first 

introduced in the
Lok Sabha in 2017 but it 
subsequently lapsed.
The Bill seeks to amend 
the Inter State River Water
Disputes Act, 1956 to 
streamline the adjudication
of inter­State river water 
disputes.

on Rules voted on Tuesday night to send a watereddown
version of an amendment to enhance defence
cooperation with India to
the full House floor for a vote. 
The new India NDAA 
amendment, a part the
House’s version of the National 
Defense Authorization
Act (NDAA) FY 2020, replaces
a significantly stronger
amendment (the “Sherman
Amendment”) that sought to
place India on a par with the 
U.S.’s NATO allies by amending
the Arms Export Control
Act (AECA), a U.S. law that
governs the sale of high­end
defence equipment to other
Countries ..HENCE NATO ally status unlikely now.

16.Central Statistics Office

(CSO)                                     (GS-2) 
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) is a governmental agency in India under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation responsible for co-ordination of statistical activities in India, and evolving and maintaining statistical standards. It has a well-equipped Graphical Unit. The CSO is located in Delhi. Some portion of Industrial Statistics work pertaining to Annual Survey of industries is carried out in Calcutta. It deals with statistical data of different departments.                  


17.The National Company Law Tribunal or NCLT is a quasi-judicial body in India adjudicating issues concerning companies in the country. It was formed on June 1, 2016 as per the provisions of the Companies Act 2013 (Section 408) by the Indian government.


It was formed based on the recommendations of the Justice Eradi Committee that was related to insolvency and winding up of companies in India.

As of now, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs has established 11 Benches of the tribunal with the Principal Bench at New Delhi. The other 12 Benches are at Delhi, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Allahabad, Guwahati, Chennai, Chandigarh, Kolkata, Mumbai, Jaipur, Kochi and Hyderabad. There are two more proposed Benches to be established at Indore and Amaravathi.

Each Bench is headed by a President, 16 judicial members and 9 technical members. The current and the first President of the NCLT is Justice MM Kumar.

NCLT Functions
All proceedings under the Companies Act such as arbitration, arrangements, compromise, reconstruction and winding up of the company will be disposed off by the Tribunal.
The NCLT is also the Adjudicating Authority for insolvency proceedings under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016.
In the above mentioned subjects, no civil court will have jurisdiction.
The NCLT has the authority to dispose of cases pending before the Board for Industrial and Financial Reconstruction (BIFR), as well as, those pending under the Sick Industrial Companies (Special Provisions) Act, 1985.
Also to take up those cases pending before the Appellate Authority for Industrial and Financial Reconstruction.
It can also take up cases relating to the oppression and mismanagement of a company.
Decisions taken by the NCLT can be appealed to the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT). The decisions of the NCLAT can be appealed to the Supreme Court on a point of law.
